Once in the file, select the correct folder for what we are currently studying. Most handouts are there, however some may need to be picked up in class as I do not have a digital version.

PLease complete the guide sheet in pt form for as an outline for your monologue.
This will be due Thursday. I realize many of you did finish it in class. See if you can add any more points or details to your outline.

Monologue Guide Sheet Hum 8

Lit Circle Final task Hum 8 2011 Caldwell

You are going to prepare a monologue based on one of the characters of your novel. Your group must decide who will become who as you cannot duplicate characters.

A monologue is:

• You are becoming the character
• You are sharing something about them through your eyes
• You are sharing a point of view
• A long uninterrupted speech told by one person.
• What s/he thinks, feels wonders is expressed
• You need to share what is going on in your head with your audience
• It is oral
• Fluency ,voice and diction are very important

In your monologue you are going to:

• You should begin by mentioning your qualities

• Talk about decisions you have made in your life.

• You will want to refer to moments you have experienced

• How the setting has influenced your decisions.

• How your interactions and relationships with other characters have influenced your decisions.

• You should include how your relationship is affected by others decisions made by you or others.

• You need to try to bring about the conflict/ the problem the character(you) had to face and how s/he(you) went about solving it. What decisions did they have to face and what did they do about them.
• How did you react to certain people, situations in a certain place etc… these are all things you should include in your monologue.

• You want to expose your characters inner thoughts. (this will help you provide insight into your character) Things I have done or not done, people I have know and loved, hated, feared almost forgotten, never forgiven, favourite stories, questions, wonderings, I think about, crazy ways to solve conflict

Also when you start:
• You need to let your audience know where and when you are talking(where it is taking place)

• What is going on at the scene

• What emotions you are feeling at the moment ( I am feeling angry because…

• What do I want to convey? (humour, anger, frustration, confusion, introspection, determination…)

Hints: The more an actor believes in the situation the more the audience will believe it.

HUM 8 Please complete an exit slip on who you think was the most important person in the reformation and why. Point form is ok. Due Fri apr 8 Election mini project due Tues Apr.14 2011 Federal Election Project-Current Events Canadians are in the midst of a Federal Election! An election is the most tangible opportunity for Canadians to participate in their own governance! Elections are the very core of a democracy yet barely half of eligible Canadians take advantage of the privilege of voting for those who would represent and govern them in the Parliaments, Legislatures and Municipal Offices throughout the country. When questioned as to why they do not vote, Canadians’ answers vary. Two common complaints are that the candidates don’t reflect the voters’ interests, and voters are ignorant about the issues and the process. While Canadians cannot legally be compelled to vote (while some say voting is a duty, it is a right--not a burden), the rationale behind this project it is that neither you nor your parents not vote because you are ignorant about the system, the candidates, the issues or the logistics. You will be required to make a few presentations over the next four weeks. Each subsequent presentation is expected to include more information AND more evidence of thought than the one prior. The first presentation is due next class and is intended to familiarize you and your classmates with the most basic information of this federal election. For THIS presentation you may work with a partner, or on your own. ASSIGNMENT #1 DUE _______________________________ You may present the following information in any format—poster, typed point form, orally, glogster, prezi.com, in a Power Point presentation, long answer paragraph, etc. What is Voting Day in the 2011 Federal Election? What are “Advanced Polls” and who can vote at them? When are they held this election? What is the name of the Constituency/Riding in which you live? What are its boundaries? Which Federal Parties are sponsoring candidates in your Riding? What are the names of the candidates in your Riding? How many Ridings are there in Canada? Which Federal Parties are contesting more than 50 Ridings? Name their Leaders. How many seats are there in the House of Commons? How many did each party represent at dissolution? Eng 11 Summative proj is due next Thurs. You will have two more journals due. Before then as well.

I hope you had a good time with your TOC and enjoyed watching Joan of Arc.

I had an interesting time teaching at an elementary school. I taught a class of Gr. 5,6, and 7. Yes, three grades in one class! I've never seen that before. Kids were running wild and one student was even licking his shoe!!! There was a little puddle of saliva on the ground afterwords. Do any of you remember doing things like that in elementary school???

They were curious about what Gr. 8 was like and they asked me if my Gr. 8s were as noisy as them. I laughed and said, "Nope. When you hit high school you become more focussed. There's still room for having fun but it's fairly different from elementary school." It's true is it not?

I looking forward to seeing you all on Monday!

Today I assigned two things: the "Plot Line" assignment and the "Make a Game" project.

I know it seems like a lot, but you'll actually find the "Plot Line" assignment to be useful for the "Make a Game" project. Remember, the purpose of the game is to get your players to understand the plot of your novel. With everyone creating their own plot line, members of your lit circle group might come up with different ideas that you could use in the game. It all comes together!

There are several things I need to address so please read the following items carefully:

1) The Medieval Character Project is now due Thurs Jan 27. Given that the Internet was slow for many of you in the morning and afternoon, it only made sense to move the deadline back one class since so much time was wasted. Your frustration with the Internet was equally felt by me so I hope the extra two days will give you a bit more time to work on it.

2) The Medieval Character Written Assignment will be held on Tues Jan 25. Originally, I planned on having you do this on Thursday but figured it would be better to give you extra time on the Project instead. This written assignment should not be difficult if you have been researching your character. Here are the instructions to the assignment:
a) I choose 7 questions out of the 11 on your Medieval Character Project. You will select 5 questions to answer.

3) Both the Project and Written Assignment are summative. The project is worth 50% and the written assignment is worth 50%.

4) Some students have not given me their One Paragraph homework yet. Please email it to my Gmail account: danielwong321@gmail.com

Thank you to those who have sent it to my Gmail already.

5) Please read p54-56 (write down two important points from each of the 3 sections onto a sticky tab and place it as you would for the magnet strategy). You are NOT instructed to read "The Law" section on p56.

6) When you are finished your Glogster Poster, I want you two do two things:
a) Email it to my Gmail account
b) Print it off your printer
