Today was a work block for our Ancient Civ project. We finalized our focus question and outlined our working plan for Thursday and Friday. The gallery walk will be on Monday. Bring all materials you need to work on the project to class on Thursday. Also make sure you have an updated bibliography. You can use easybib, or there is a handout in the Ancient Civ folder( right side panel) on how to write a bibliography.
Please complete the good copy of your edited Instruction Paragraph for Tuesday. You need to hand in pink outline sheet and your edited draft along with the good copy. Also, if you want to do anymore research, please update your research notes. I will be checking in with you on Tuesday about your research.
Write a complete bibliography ( info on yellow handout from library) for all sources you used in your research project. You can write it on the back of the research notes rubric.
Today was the last class to gather our research notes for our ancient civ project.

Remember to have an idea of either a primary or secondary source that you have used in your research gathering for tomorrow's class. You do not need the actual source, just know what you have used.
Today we continued our research on the Ancient Civ. We looked at Economic and Political features. Thursday will be our last day of in class research.

Please have a rough draft paper copy of your INSTRUCTION paragraph for Friday. You can hand in your printed draft as soon as it is done.

Today we finished up our last lit circle. The final graphic novel project was assigned. Handouts are in graphic novel folder. THIS PROJECT IS DUE ON WEDNESDAY NOV 10!!!!!!!!!!! It needs to be handed in on Wednesday as it will be part of your first term mark. Marks Cut off is Wednesday, Nov. 10.
We also began our Ancient Civilization Inquiry project. Today we looked at the key elements we research and began to practice the importance of location.
Think about which civilization you want to research. We will begin our research on Tuesday.
Today we were introduced on how to assess websites reliability by Ms. Q. We practiced by looking at two different sites about Christopher Columbus. Following this mini lesson, we recapped annotating graphic novels, and used our annotations to inform us about the novel's character. We then practised selecting character traits to describe the character.
Our last lit circle is Thursday. Please make sure you have completed your last role sheet.
Today we had our third lit circle. Your fourth lit circle role sheet is due on Thursday. This will be our last class to work in our lit circle groups. We then looked at how to annotate a graphic novel panel. If you did not finish your panel ( 10 annotations), please finish that for tomorrow's class.
Today we worked on Lit Circle #2. WE discussed and took notes on what a good discussion looks like and self evaluated how we did in our discussion groups. Students then had a choice to either work on their next Lit Circle Role sheet, complete Task 1, which is due tomorrow, or continue to read their novel. We will be finishing up the novels next week.
Today we worked on looking at graphic novel shots and finding examples in our novel. Students were then given task 1 to complete for Friday. They will have time on Thursday to work on it. Lit circle sheet #2 is due on Thursday. We will have our second lit circle discussion on Thursday. Today's handouts have now been uploaded to the graphic novel folder under handouts.
Yesterday we reviewed why it is important to look at the historical significance when we study history. We also looked at continuity and change and why it is important to always think about that. Then came the fun part. Graphic novels were assigned, we met our lit circle group members and decided on what role sheet we will be responsible for on Monday.
Homework: If you did not finish your role sheet in class, please have it finished for Monday.
Today we viewed a ppt about parts of a graphic novel. Please complete the ppt handout for Thursday, Oct. 21. I will be collecting them at the beginning of class. We selected our preferences for which novel we would like to read.
If you did not hand in your narrative please print it and submit tomorrow.
Today we worked on brainstorming ideas for our narrative and then we worked on the draft in class. Tomorrow we will be doing some editing and then will have time to revise during the class. Final copies will be due on Monday. If finished on Friday, you can submit it on Friday. The brainstorm sheet is under handouts and in the Eng 8 folder.
Today we looked at the elements of a story; the 5w's. We also looked at how to include dialogue and enrich our writing. We then looked at 4 different narratives and figured out where they belonged on the proficiency scale. Homework: Come up with an idea that you can write about. We will be writing our narratives in class on Thursday.
Today we worked on our anthology. It was wonderful to see how much students accomplished during the block. Anthologies are due at the beginning of class tomorrow. IF you are emailing or sharing your google doc link, please make sure that you copy link and paste in an email.

Today we worked on our anthology project. We looked at what a preface is and have a template to help us write our preface. The anthology booklet is due on Friday. The handouts are in the Secret Path folder, which is under HUM 8 and Eng 8 folder which is under Ms.Caldwells handouts. ( Click on the sidebar).
Today we began to create our own anthology of our story. We are following the model of Secret Path and finding images and lyrics to tell our story. Our autobiomaps that we have worked on have helped fill out the plot chart of our lives.
Copies of the assignment can be found by clicking on the link in side bar, Mrs. C handouts. Once in there, open Hum 8, folder then click on First Nations Folder and then the Secret Path folder. You will find the assignment there.

Today we worked on continents, hemispheres and oceans. There will be a quiz on this topic FRIDAY, Oct. 1.
Homework: Please finish all latitude and longitude sheets. The one we worked on in class today and if you have not already finished the longitude/latitude sheet from last week, please finish that one.
